The Acudor FRFD-XL Oversized Fire-Rated Floor Door brings a new level of safety and performance to large-format floor access. For years, designers and contractors have faced limitations when specifying rated assemblies that exceed standard access door dimensions. The FRFD-XL solves that problem by delivering a fully rated 2-hour floor door (tested to NFPA 288 and ASTM E119) in sizes up to 80" x 80" — without compromising strength, function, or aesthetics.

Built for Performance and Protection

Designed for reliability and scale, the FRFD-XL brings rated performance to larger openings with a reinforced build that maintains both safety and accessibility. The door features a ¼" aluminum diamond plate panel reinforced to support a 300 psf live load, ensuring it withstands the weight of equipment and personnel traffic in mechanical spaces, corridors, or maintenance areas. Beneath the surface, the door’s layered construction combines a stainless-steel bottom frame and an aluminum top frame with a thermal break, joined by a fiberglass structural channel for thermal efficiency and rigidity.

Inside the assembly, ceramic blanket insulation works in concert with a 16-gauge stainless steel Z-pan and expanded metal base to contain heat and maintain floor assembly integrity during a fire event. Together, these details create a rugged yet refined system that performs where it matters most — protecting people, assets, and infrastructure.

Safety-Focused Operation

Beyond its fire rating, the FRFD-XL is designed with operator safety and usability in mind. The panel opens a full 90 degrees, supported by stainless steel compression springs that offset the door’s size and weight for smoother operation. A red vinyl–gripped hold-open arm automatically locks the panel open, securing it during maintenance or inspections. In the event of a fire, a U.L.-listed 165°F fusible link automatically releases, closing and latching the door to preserve the rated barrier.

Additional details such as the type 316 stainless-steel continuous piano hinge, interior-release slam latch, and precision-ground mating surfaces ensure durability and long-term alignment under real-world conditions. The result is a floor door that operates as confidently as it protects.

To accommodate a wide range of field conditions, the FRFD-XL is available in six standard sizes, providing flexibility for both new construction and retrofit applications. Custom configurations are also available upon request to meet unique project requirements.
